Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
