Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his maiden title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since March of that year.

Success also means he has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, took control to create a decider.

He saved four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
