Arteta Applauds a More Dependable Squad and Confirms Havertz Injury Blow.

Mikel Arteta feels assured that his squad can persist in handling with fitness issues after disclosing that forward Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The German forward has been out for months after undergoing knee surgery. Initially expected to return earlier in December, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when increasing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “to the next level.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This development leaves a dilemma for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back from a muscle injury as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is an option after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Additional concerns surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in the backline for the league leaders.

Arteta believes the significant outlay on reinforcements in the last transfer window has resulted in a much stronger position to deal with such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

Questioned if increased squad depth was aiding their league challenge, his response was positive. “Indeed, as this campaign has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at this level. And the case of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Commenting on the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered more insight. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

The manager conveyed his personal desire to welcome him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, personally, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his character, his attitude. I watch him struggle being outside.”

“His playing record is outstanding, he's rarely been injured, and I look forward to have him back involved and playing because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
